This is an easy, baked donut recipe that definitely does not take all day. It has the delicious flavor combination of maple and brown sugar glaze on top of a soft, pillowy baked donut. It whips up as easy as a basic cake batter but added to a donut pan. Easy, tasty, pillowy donut, brown sugar, and maple in one recipe….doesn't get much better than that.

DAIRY SUBSTITUTES

As always, the recipe is dairy allergy and lactose intolerant friendly but you can always use real butter and milk if you would like. The measurements are exactly the same

Brown Sugar Maple Baked Donuts

Yield: 12 servings

Donuts

2 cups cake flour

3/4 cup sugar

1 1/2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

3/4 almond milk

2 large eggs

2 tbsp butter substitute, melted (I use Earth Balance)

3 tbsp maple syrup or 1/2 tsp maple extract

1 tsp vanilla extract

Maple Icing

5 tbsp almond milk and 3 tbsp almond milk

1/2 cup brown sugar

4 tbsp maple syrup

1/2 cup butter substitute, melted (I use Earth Balance)

2 cups powdered sugar

Donuts

Preheat oven to 425 F. Spray your donut tray with non-stick baking spray. Sit the tray(s) to the side.

Add the cake flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, whisk together the almond milk, maple syrup, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla. Add the wet ingredients into the large bowl with the flour mixture. Stir until combined and all dry ingredients are saturated.

Pour the batter into a large zip lock bag or piping bag.. Cut the tip of the bag and pipe evenly into the donut tray. Bake for 7 to 10 minutes.

Brown Sugar Maple Icing

Simmer 5 tbsps of almond milk and the brown sugar in a small pot or pan until the mixture is smooth and no longer gritty. Stir in maple syrup.

Add butter and melt on low. Remove from heat.

Add powdered sugar and 3 tbsp of almond milk. Mix until smooth.

Dip the donuts on one side into the icing.

Optional: Sprinkle with a small amount of coarse or flaky salt after dipping into the icing
